White Bread


Ingredients
- 2 Cups milk
- 5 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. salt
- 5 Tbsp. lard
- 2 Cups lukewarm water
- 2 Packages yeast
- 12-14 Cups flour
Instructions
- Scald milk and add lard, sugar, and salt.
- Cool till lukewarm.
- Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and add to lukewarm milk mixture.
- Beat in 6 cups flour until smooth.
- Gradually add remainder (6-7 cups) until dough forms a ball and is stiff enough to be kneaded.
- Turn out on floured board and knead quickly and lightly until smooth and elastic.
- Place in greased bowl, brush with melted lard or butter, cover and let rise until doubled, in a warm place (will take 45 minutes to 1 hour).
- Divide dough into four equal portions and shape into loaves.
- Place in greased bread pans, cover and let rise until double in bulk, about an hour.
- Bake at 400° for about 50 minutes.
- Remove from pans and butter tops and sides.
