Lemon Torte

  • 1/2 Cup butter
  • 1/2 Cup brown sugar
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 1/2 Cup chopped black walnuts


  • 8 egg yolks and 8 egg whites
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • 2 lemons (juice and grated rind)
  • 2 Packages unflavoured gelatin in 3/4 Cup water
  • 1 Pint whipping cream


For Crust:

  • Mix ingredients and bake at 350° for 15 minutes.
  • Save a bit for sprinkling on top.

For Filling:

  • Beat together 8 egg yolks and gradually add 2 cups sugar and juice and grated rind of 2 lemons.
  • Bring to a full boil, stirring constantly until colour changes.
  • Dissolve 2 envelopes unflavoured gelatin on 3/4 cup water and add lo the lemon mixture when hot.
  • Cool.
  • When cool add the 8 beaten egg whites, beaten stiff.
  • Put on crust.
  • Add the whipping cream (whipped).
  • Spread over lemon mixture.
  • Sprinkle with crumbs.
  • Chill in ice box overnight.
  • Cut to serve.
