Burnt Sugar Cake

Ingredients

Let come to a light brown color. Cool.

  • 1/2 Cup Brown sugar
  • Add 1/4 Cup water

  • 1 1/2 Cups sugar
  • 1/2 Cup butter (or shortening)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 Cup cold water
  • 2 Cup flour
  • Tsp. baking powder

Instructions

  • Cream sugar, butter; add egg yolks, 1 cup cold water, 2 cup flour.
  • Beat 5 minutes.
  • Add 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 cup flour, 2 stiffly beaten egg whites, burnt sugar, and 1 tsp. vanilla.
  • Fold in.
  • Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes.
